Remember when I told you guys that I thought I had a really cool idea? Well, this is it! The 1st Annual Softie Thanksgiving Day Parade! I thought about it when I was working on the pieces for my last show but of course I was way too busy to actually do anything about it. But I wanted to get the news out there early so everyone would have time to make something and participate.
Now of course I'm not going to sponsor a real "live" parade complete with floats, balloons, clowns and marching bands. But I'm am going to sponsor a "virtual" parade where you E-mail me a picture of your entry (you can make it look like it's on a float or attach strings if you'd like so it looks like one of those GIANT balloons) and I will post them all in my Blog during Thanksgiving Week. I ended up calling it "Softie" because I wanted to incorporate everything from bears, to cats, to dogs, to dolls, to needle felted pieces. I could have called it "Teddy Bear and Friends" but that would make everyone think it had something to do with the magazine or I could have called it "Bears and Buds" but I didn't want people to think it had anything to do with the webzine. So Softie became the word of choice to describe it.
All entries will be due to me by Tuesday, November 20th at the latest so I can re-size them and do any photo editing that needs to be done. Try to photograph you entry against a solid, non-crinkly background to really show off your work! At the end of the week, I'll put up a poll on my website so people can vote. The top five entries will receive a prize (shh..not telling but they will be good) and other entries will receive something small for participating (I haven't decided on that yet but I'm not rich or anything so small is the key word in this sentence).
People viewing the entries should judge them first of all based on creativity, then of course on keeping with the holiday theme, color, texture and overall appeal.
Sound like fun? Let me know what you think!
